Nohad Chebaro
Nohad Chebaro, Senior Mediation and Inclusion Adviser, and Eastern Libya Representative, Center for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD)
Chebaro brings 35 years of experience in the humanitarian field. Her work spans operational humanitarian assistance, peacebuilding, reconciliation, mediation, negotiation, conflict resolution, and ceasefire processes.
She is currently leading HD’s work to bring women from different tribal and political backgrounds in Libya to rebuild a peaceful society during and after the ongoing conflict. This delicate and sensitive work is carried out against a background of inter-tribal violence and hostility.
Chebaro is dedicated to promoting the role of women in peacemaking and peacekeeping; her most recent contribution being a facilitator at the Libyan Women’s Action Plan for Peace Conference convened by UNSMIL, UN Women, and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November 2015.
She began her humanitarian journey with the Lebanese Red Cross and later worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Lebanon and Libya.
The HD Centre in Libya was mandated by the SRSG to hold the consultative process for the National Dialogue, Chebaro was in charge of including the Libyan Women in this process. During the Libyan Political Forum, she facilitated the issuance of a Women’s Statement to guarantee women’s rights in the new government, resulting in the appointment of five women ministers.
