Maria Geagea, Project Manager at International Alert, and an advocate for women, peace, and security
Geagea is an accomplished project manager with a strong educational and professional focus on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). She has extensive experience supporting local civil society organizations, mainstreaming gender across various sectors, and advancing initiatives for social stability and women’s empowerment.
She works with International Alert, where she manages four projects centered on gender-sensitive approaches to social stability, integrating gender perspectives into the social stability sector, and supporting women mediators under the WPS agenda.
Geagea’s previous experience includes her tenure as a Program Coordinator and Legal Researcher at the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW). She also contributed to the Gender Barometer project as a quantitative research assistant, conducting surveys and analyzing data on gender-based violence and women’s political participation. Her early career included an internship with the Jordanian National Commission for Women, where she focused on implementing UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
Geagea holds an Arab Master’s in Democracy and Human Rights from Saint Joseph University and the University of Jordan, where her thesis examined the impact of UNSCR 1325 on women in Jordan and Lebanon. Additionally, she has a Law Degree (BA and M1) from the Holy Spirit University.
Her expertise is strengthened by advanced training in gender, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as election observation from a gender perspective. She has represented her work at high-profile events such as COP28 in Dubai and the Third Regional Forum on Women and Development in Tunisia, demonstrating her commitment to advocating for women’s empowerment, conflict resolution, and climate resilience.
